About Us
The group Capoeira Cordão de Ouro was founded on September 1, 1967 by Reinaldo Ramos Suassuna, Mestre Suassuna, along with Mestre Brasilia in São Paolo, Brasil. Mestre Suassuna decidated himself to Capoeira Regional while Mestre Brasilia taught Capoeria Angola. Today, Mestre Suassuna is international recognized as one of the biggest and most respected names in Capoeira. He created and developed the Miudinho style of Capoeira. Capoeira Cordão de Ouro is now represented in several parts of the globe: Brazil, Mexico, USA, Germany, London, Japan, Holland, and Israel.
Contra-Mestre Papalegua started playing capoeira in Fortaleza, Ceara at the age of 12, under the direct instruction of Mestre Espirro Mirim. He received his Contra-Mestre corda in 2006, at the second annual Capoeirence in Fortaleza. Contra-Mestre is also the main organizer of the annual Capoeirence event. He has over 18 years of capoeira under his belt. Contra-Mestre Papalegua has traveled around the world and participated in several events throughout Brazil, Israel, Palestine, Germany, Holland, and France. In addition to Capoeira, Contra-Mestre Papalegua has trained in jiu jitsu for 7 years and holds a purple belt. He has also trained MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) for 4 years and has participated in numerous professional fights.
Mestre Espirro Mirim is a well respected capoeirista around the world. He has been playing capoeira for over 30 years. He practiced directly under Mestre Suassuna and is the foremost expert in the Miudinho style of Capoeira. Mestre Mirim directs Cordão de Ouro in Fortaleza, Brazil and in Holland.
Danny Mangual, Atabaque, started started capoeira in 2002 while attending University of Arizona. He received his first belt in Dec 2002. After two years in 2005, Atabaque received his yellow belt. He relocated to Los Angeles, Ca and then joined Cordao de Ouro under Mestre Penteado. In May 2006, Atabaque relocated to Tucson, AZ and started CDO Tucson, with the direction of Mestre Penteado and the authorization of Mestre Suassuna. Atabaque received his yellow/blue cord, Monitor level, in April 2007.
